I see an interesting picture in my mind, when I read this Haiku - As the night rider spreads his cape on daylight, darkness begines to flourish!!! :-)

I'm not sure I find flourishing darkness very comfortable, but then the image is quite threatening(!). I can see the spirit though, and the haiku captures it.

The comparison using Night Rider provides the mystery of an evening's stretch ... it balances the day and provides rest for the weary! Then again, the nighttime is when much gets accomplished!!!
